Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.

Now, Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.

Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers—and her growing feelings for the enemy.

It takes me almost a week to finish reading this magical high fantasy in which I am still stuck in the world of Orisha. Here I am in front of my laptop struggling to find words to say about Children of Blood and Bone, a debut novel by the author Tomi Adeyemi. Basically, reading this epic magical fantasy book that has given lots of emotions lingering in you - love, family, the fighting spirit, grief - all in one book. That put me in the middle of what and how am I supposed to begin?

But anyway, let's just begin.

The first few chapters, it's a struggle to me as I'm trying to understand what is this all about. The starting was a bit slow somehow it's understandable as you may not know what is waiting for you in the future, I mean the next and next pages. No, this is not going to impair the story at all. No, it's not. Believe me.

Zelie Adebola is only a child when the Raid destruct her world and her family but that's not going to satiated Zelie's spirit to find and make it real again for the magic to appear to her and the people again. For her and for the people to fight for what has been stolen from them - the magic.

The magical artifacts that have been stolen are what Zelie looking for trying to make the magic appear again. Zelie's, she is amazing, a Maji whom her fighting spirit never die out, never give up and still trying even though few times she fails but failure is not going disrupt her spirit. To earn her trust meaning you need to prove yourself and that's what Princess Amari has achieved.

Beside Zelie and Princess Amari, there is Zelie's brother, Tzain, who always there for her, protect her, will do anything for her sake. I love Tzain but it's a bit sad as there is no POV from Tzain. And there is also Prince Inan, Princess Amari's brother, who always set his mind to do things that were instructed by his dad, King Saran but nobody knows he is also a maji except Zelie. Among four characters, Inan is the most complicated characters as he is struggling to find the truth and try to make a change from the better future but it's not an easy thing to do as he thoughts it would be.

Tomi Adeyemi has superb writing, the world built in Children of Blood and Bone is so fricking amazing and how she makes us as a reader that put us on the edge of our sits, as after one battle to another, you can never feel relax for once because you never know what awaits you in the future.

I must say, the pain, love, the unjust treatment, the fighting spirit that have in Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi is a stunning high fantasy with the black protagonist that's so beautifully wonderful written. In all honesty, I can't wait to read next Orisha trilogy. I'm suggesting you read Children of Blood and Bone and feels the magic that brought by Tomi Adeyemi.
